Visiting and Learning
Visiting a working farm presents a special opportunity for students to engage with and experience the countryside first hand. Never has it been more important to understand how food is produced and how farmers care for the natural environment which is their work place.

At present we can offer up to 25 free educational visits a year thanks to grant funding from the ‘Farming in Protected Landscapes’ fund.
A group of up to 15 students and the staff is an ideal group size, but we can cater for more depending on the age and educational status of the group.
We encourage visits during Spring and Summer term time as there is a lot going on about the farm from April to July and the weather is usually viable, although we are happy to take visits in the Autumn.
We are fully insured and have a full risk assessment which will be shared with the visiting establishment prior to visiting and we encourage a pre visit from a member of staff is possible.
A typical visit will consist of: – Arrival and introduction/safety talk followed by a farm environment walk, visiting any animals available, performing a task such as planting trees, bedding up a shed or simply watching one of our day-to-day farming practices. Hopefully a look at the bees and perhaps an ‘plant identification treasure hunt’ or quiz to finish the day off.
Groups are welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy during or after the visit before heading off.
We will be offering the ‘John Muir’ environment award in the future when help with transport costs could be found via the ‘John Muir’ trust.
